Court Reporting
Learning to Voice Write
To learn more about what a voice writer does and what it takes to be successful in the field, click here.
When it comes to choosing where you will learn how to be a voice writer, there are few places to train and even fewer places that offer all you need to be a truly successful court reporter. Before choosing where to train, make sure you know if a training program or school offers the following:
- Dragon Training
- EclipseVox training, the CAT (computer-aided transcription) software that over 95 percent of voice writers use
- A class that instructs you on how a transcript is laid out
- Classes about how to punctuate the spoken word correctly
- Instruction on what to do when you are in a courtroom or in a deposition
- Preparation for your certification testing
The Academy of Voice Writing is a training academy which offers training classes needed to be a successful voice writing court reporter. We are a subsidiary of Eclipse Coach, and we are not a school. We do not offer or accept financial aid of any kind, but payment options for the training do exist.
We specialize in helping schools by teaching Dragon and EclipseVox to students, and we offer training needed to anyone who wants to learn how to master voice writing.

About Academy of Voice Writing
The Academy of Voice Writing provides training to students attending accredited court reporting programs, to voice court reporters, to steno writers wanting to learn about voice writing, and to current Eclipse users who want to dig deeper into Eclipse. Founded to help with the shortage of court reporters in the industry and the shortage of voice instructors, our goal is to help students become a master of Eclipse and/or Dragon and educate students to be successful in their job as a court reporter.

Angie Ryder
Advanced Eclipse Trainer
I have been in the court reporting industry since 2002. I am a certified advanced EclipseVox™ trainer, the EclipseVox instructor for the Academy of Voice Writing, and I can’t wait to be a part of helping students achieve their dream of working as a court reporter. I speak at national and state conventions, educating others in technology courses, Dragon, and Eclipse classes, as well as provide group and one-on-one training.
Before the Academy of Voice Writing, I taught both steno and voice students at the College of Court Reporting, until the college decided to no longer use Eclipse for any of their students. I strongly believe that EclipseVox is the best CAT program for voice writers, as its drop rate and features surpass any other program on the market, and Eclipse for steno writers is the eminent CAT program due to all of the functions available.
Prior to entering the court reporting industry, I taught SGML coding, cottage workers, and was a trainer for various companies. That background paved the way for me to become an advanced Eclipse trainer, and I encourage you to ask around about my training and teaching style. I work with both voice and steno reporters, and my experience and skills in Eclipse and computers, along with my teaching experiences, enable me to help others easily learn. I believe learning happens differently for each individual, and all training I do is geared to many different methods of instruction.

“After a 30-year teaching career, I decided to follow a completely different career path in court reporting/captioning. Fate was looking out for me when I was lucky enough to have Angie as one of my teachers. Speaking from first-hand experience, Angie has all the qualities of the very best teachers: She is knowledgeable, patient, dedicated, enthusiastic, and caring. And perhaps most important of all, she LOVES what she does. I know I wouldn’t have been as well-prepared as I was to enter the job market without Angie. Having her as my instructor was a game changer.”

"I don't know what I would do if it weren't for Angie. Speaking as a former student of hers, Angie has a wealth of knowledge and passion for all things Eclipse and court reporting. I faced many technical challenges with my software, and she was always patient and persistent in solving the problem. She's very responsive to all questions and will go the extra mile to ensure all her students understand the content, even if it means staying an extra hour with her students to answer questions."

“I was fortunate to have had Angie for two semesters in school. She taught me Eclipse Basics in one semester and Eclipse Advanced in my next semester. She is a wealth of knowledge and knows the software like no other. Oftentimes when I couldn’t get help from the software support, I could always count on Angie to help me fix the problem. She made sure we understood the ins and outs of our software to ensure it would carry us beyond school and into our professional careers. Her teaching expertise is unmatched, and anyone who has a chance to learn from Angie is lucky. When it was time to test, Angie also assisted me and my classmate with much needed items to ensure our testing went as smoothly as possible. She always goes above and beyond.”

“Angie Ryder has been an exceptional resource for me as a student and as a working reporter. As my instructor during school, she would take her time explaining the various features of Eclipse until she was blue in the face. I learned about everything from the basics to advanced voice codes and macros. Once I graduated from school, she helped me develop my auto-indexing so that I can be more efficient with my transcripts. Even to this date, I am constantly working with her for guidance on anything software-related, including Dragon’s connection to Eclipse. Flexible, easy to work with, and dedicated support to make sure that we can come up with the best solution to my problem together, whatever Eclipse problems may arise. I cannot recommend Angie enough and will continue to rely on her expertise throughout my career.”
